The Northern Territory Government has set an ambitious goal: to position the NT as a leading regional hub for maritime service, supply and sustainment. Achieving this requires not just infrastructure and investment, but a skilled, resilient, and sustainable workforce.
To support this vision, the Industry Skills Advisory Council NT (ISACNT) engaged AMC Search Ltd (AMCS), the training and consultancy division of the Australian Maritime College, to develop the NT Maritime Industry Workforce Strategy. As the local delivery partner, ACTIO Group was proud to program manage the Territory-based components of the project.
Our Role
ACTIO Group brought deep local knowledge and logistical execution to the project, ensuring that the strategy was grounded in NT realities. Specifically, we:
- Coordinated 30+ one-hour stakeholder interviews across the industry.
- Delivered online surveys to capture broader perspectives.
- Arranged infrastructure, facility tours and face-to-face meetings with government agencies and local businesses.
- Delivered two regional workshops: one in Darwin and one in Gove (Nhulunbuy): bringing together industry leaders and contributors within the maritime sector.
These activities involved a diverse cross-section of the maritime ecosystem, including fabricators, engineers, vessel operators, offshore service providers, logistics companies, RTOs, government representatives, and SMEs.
Outcomes
The collaborative process delivered a robust evidence base and practical recommendations, providing a clear pathway to:
- Identify current and future maritime workforce needs.
- Align training to the skills required for industry growth.
- Build a workforce that is responsive, resilient, and sustainable.
By facilitating constructive discussions, capturing insights in real time, and managing tight project logistics, ACTIO ensured the right voices were heard and the right data was gathered to inform decision-making.
Testimonial from AMC Search
“ACTIO Group were outstanding as our local delivery partner for the Maritime Industry Workforce Strategy. They coordinated 30+ stakeholder interviews, managed survey delivery and capture, arranged infrastructure and facility tours as well as face-to-face meetings with government and local businesses, and delivered workshops in Darwin and Gove with seamless logistics. Their facilitation kept conversations focused and constructive, while their use of bespoke software captured insights and decisions in real time, turning diverse input into a coherent evidence base. The result was a set of clear, practical recommendations that reflected local realities and industry needs. We simply wouldn’t have achieved the same outcome without ACTIO’s effort, organisation and Territory know-how.”
The Bigger Picture
This strategy, to be delivered by AMC Search will provide the framework to ensure the NT has the workforce capability to support a growing maritime sector.
